Nortada

We redesigned Nortada's online store, a historic Portuguese swimwear brand, in time for the launch of the new Dores by Nortada collection.

The brand

Nortada has designed and produced swimwear in Portugal since 1998. It is a brand known for the quality of its products and for its bond with the people who have followed it for more than two decades.

When they came to us, the online store no longer did that journey justice. The design was dated and the navigation got in the way of the essentials: finding and buying.

The tribute

The redesign coincided with a delicate moment for the brand. Dores Pestana, the creative soul of Nortada, passed away in December 2025. The brand then brought her work and her legacy together in a single collection, named Dores by Nortada.

The new site was designed to serve this collection, and its story, with the care it deserved.

«More than a collection, this is a way to celebrate the talent, the creativity and the legacy that Dores left at Nortada.»
Nortada

The approach

The goal was simple to state and demanding to execute: a clean, modern and premium store, worthy of the products.

We started with structure. We reorganised the homepage to tell a clear story, from the first screen through to the catalogue, and arranged the collections around the people looking for them: Women and Teenager, bikinis and one-piece swimsuits. The navigation began to guide, instead of forcing people to guess.

Then, the detail. We rebuilt the footer from scratch and refined every page until the whole thing could breathe. The images were produced with no photography budget, using assisted generation and manual editing, so everything looked like it belonged to a single brand.

The result is a store that feels premium from the very first second and makes the thing that matters simple: seeing the products and buying.

Theme and architecture

We started from Shopify's Horizon theme and shaped it to the brand's needs, rather than piling on one-off add-ons. The homepage was given a custom section order and the collections were organised into four sub-collections (Women and Teenager, bikinis and one-piece swimsuits) with a main collection tying them together. The navigation menus were updated to reflect that segmentation.

Per-collection hero, in Liquid

We edited the sections/hero.liquid file so each collection automatically shows its own featured image (collection.image), with a default fallback image. A surgical, theme-native change, rather than a static page for each collection.

Framing the images

Swimwear is photographed in portrait, and the automatic cropping was cutting out what mattered. Once we understood the theme's per-image ratio system (the --ratio variable), we used the native Portrait ratio and a single CSS rule (object-position: center top) to fix the focus, without resorting to patches.

Clearing out what was left behind

The footer had been built with a page builder (Beae). We rebuilt it from scratch and carefully removed the orphan blocks left behind in the config/settings_data.json file, so the theme stayed clean and fast.

Orders

Same-period comparison, year over year (28 April to 21 June). These are signals of how the store began to serve the people who visit it: the community stayed close and each order came to be worth more. The average order value also reflects the new collection.

Testimonial

In the client's words.

Working with ValuePoint, in the person of André Capelas, was an excellent experience. I would highlight the professionalism, the closeness and the clear focus on results at every stage of the process. I recommend them to anyone looking for a trusted partner with real impact on the business.

Nortada carries on doing what it has done best since 1998, now with a store to match. It was a privilege to accompany the brand through this chapter.
